Auto Accident
Thousands of motorists each year are seriously injured in Auto Accidents. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, in 2014, 8, 693 victims were killed or injured in San Diego County alone. Car Accidents can be devastating. Whether you or your loved one was involved in a minor rear-end collision, or more serious accident, all accidents are disruptive. You have to seek medical treatment, miss work, and live in pain, not being able to enjoy the activities you once had. Then after your medical treatment is done, you have the stress of mounting medical bills. Most injury victims feel overwhelmed and may feel they are being taken advantage of by the insurance company.
In an auto accident, the at-fault party is liable for all injuries that occur as a result of the negligence of the at-fault driver. This includes (but not limited to) damage to your property (vehicle), medical bills and expenses, lost wages, and for emotional distress, pain and suffering.
What Should I do If I Was Involved in a Car Accident?
- Call the Police and obtain a police report. Obtain the name and badge number of the officer on the scene.
- If not seriously injured, exchange current information such as: phone numbers, current address, insurance policy, driver’s license, current vehicle registration and vehicle VIN number).
- Leave your car where it is (unless it is only a minor collision and no serious injuries. Leaving the vehicle where it is, aids in the investigation of the accident by the police).
- Take photographs. The more the better. Pictures of both the vehicles at multiple angles, injuries, and the scene.
- Take down the statements and contacts of witnesses and/or passengers of both vehicles.
- Get medical help immediately.
- Report the collision to your insurance company
- Report the collision to the DMV within 10 days of the accident if damage to either vehicle is $750.00 or more or if anyone is injured or killed in the accident.
